Sun tan lotions!

Hi,

Might be the wrong forum actually, but let's give it a go:

We are going away for two weeks in the sun in the middle of June:j, and I am thinking of going for some once a day sun tan lotion, as we will be in and out of the sea / pools a lot each day, constantly reapplying lotion.

Just wondering what people's experiences are with this sort of thing and if anyone has any suggestions of good places to get hold of some bargains at the moment.

Thanks!

Duncan

Personally I would re-apply it all day even if it said once a day, as constant swimming would wash it off. That goes for my son as well. Supposedly the best sun tan lotion is Ultra Sun, this is meant to be very good but it's expensive. M & S sell it, and I've heard the shopping channels on tv.

Start the holiday with high factors (30+) for three days or longer. Reapply throughout the day. Work down gradually.

I buy my sun cream in December. Typically a branded £14 bottle is on BOGOF in the Summer months, so really £7. In the Winter months these bottles will usually be flogged for £3 a pop.

There's also the store brand cheaper sun creams. From memory I believe these usually perform well in value for money / level of protection surveys.

Good advice except the bit about working down gradually.

IMO you should stick with factor 30 or above the whole time, I have seen what skin cancer does

I must admit that I generally use 15 all the time. It tends to be cheaper to buy than 30 and there is sod all difference in the level of protection.

That said, I'm not one for baking on a sunbed although I do spend a lot of the time in and out of the water. I wouldn't want to rely on a once a day product.

I have to say that normally I burn fairly easily but bought the "once for 10 hours protection" Riemann P20 for a week in Egypt and it did exactly what it said on the tin even with going into the water many times a day.

i would second the riemans p20, they do different factors now as well. Its not cheap but it does the job as a once per day, always take some for re-applying though just in case.

A close second is the piz buin, its more of a cream than the riemans, but is still pretty good.

Check out Home Bargains if you have one locally.

They have branded sun protection products identical to the ones in nearby Tesco's at a fraction of the price.

We have used Piz Buin All Day Long cream for the past 5 holidays, it's all I will use now. Stick it on in the morning, and it does last, though I do top up my shoulders after lunch as that's where I would burn.

I love the Avon sun creams, have been buying them for years and there always seems to be some kind of offer on them.
